So many studies claim that married people tend to be happier, healthier and live longer than those who are single and divorced. But is that true?
A study from Carnegie Mellon University found that married people had lower levels of stress hormone cortisol than unmarried and divorced people. The findings show that marriage can improve overall health by acting as a shield against psychological distress.
People with lower cortisol levels tend to be healthier. This is because high levels of cortisol can increase inflammation, which can increase the risk of a number of health problems, including heart disease, autoimmune conditions and depression.
Happy marriage will support your overall health, but don’t forget that not all marriages are like this. A marriage dispute is very common and it is associated with poor health. In 2010, also a study published in Psychoneuroendocrinology journal, found that unhealthy pressure in marriage could contribute to poor immune and blood pressure function. Being in the wrong marriage relationship will endanger your health. In the same study, the authors revealed that the pressure in the household would be worse for your health than the pressure at work.
A more detailed description will show that the quality of your actual relationship can affect your happiness and your health. Then what is the quality relationship like?
