Jakarta, May 11th 2020 – To commemorate Sun Life Indonesia’s 25th Anniversary, the company is making a donation of personal protection equipment for medical workers and food packages for the needy, which will be distributed by non-profits the YOAN Foundation and Dompet Dhuafa. The donation to support the Indonesian people in the COVID-19 pandemic is part of the company's global pledge of CAD$ 1 million to support communities impacted by COVID-19 around the world.
"The worldwide spread of COVID-19 has become a global health challenge, as well as a global economic challenge which impacts various levels of society. In the midst of this condition, Sun Life wants to continue to spread positive energy and provide the best protection for Indonesians, especially medical workers and affected communities. Protection will be provided in the form of personal protective equipment and food packages for people in need. This initiative is a form of our gratitude to our health frontliners, as it is thanks to their devotion that we know there are brighter days ahead. As Sun Life marks its 25 years of operations in Indonesia, we would like to pass on the positive light and hope that we have been shining for Indonesian families," explained Elin Waty, President Director of Sun Life Indonesia.
The provinces where the food package donations will be distributed include DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, Banten, West Nusa Tenggara, Bali, West Sumatra, South Sumatra and North Sumatra. The distribution will be conducted in stages, considering the limitations of protective device, especially for medical personnel.
"In addition to medical personnel who are at the forefront and at high risk of coronavirus exposure, people who are socially and economically affected are among those who also need to be focused on. Often they lose their source of income, which makes them live in the midst of poverty. We appreciate Sun Life Indonesia’s initiative to take part in efforts to provide protection for health heroes, as well as to provide hope for vulnerable people affected. Of course we also invite all parties to participate in coronavirus prevention and handling in our beloved country," said Hendra Setia, Head of the Community Service Institution (LPM) Dompet Dhuafa.
For 25 years, Sun Life Indonesia has been a part of Indonesian families supporting the health and well-being of its Clients, agents, employees, and communities. Throughout the COVID-19 health crisis, Sun Life Indonesia is focused on supporting the community while at the same time ensuring the best service for its Clients.
"Awareness, care and collaboration are important keys in breaking the chain of worldwide virus transmission. Even our smallest gesture and kindness is meaningful. Therefore, we should ensure we always follow government’s recommendations, implement clean and healthy lifestyles, maintain physical distance, and protect ourselves and loved ones from disease transmission, so that this country can be immediately free from effects brought by the pandemic. Keep your spirits up, and shine on by spreading positive enthusiasm for a bright future, "Elin added.
